Review - Dog Clippers and Advice
Clipping your dog’s nails is extremely important, depending on how quickly your dogs nails grows depends how many times they need clipping, if you take your dog on lots of walks on a hard surface you often don’t need to clip them. Lack of knowledge in clipping your dog’s nails can lead to pain and a lot of blood, also to avoid infection you must learn and be confident in doing so. I would suggest if you are unable to cut nails or simply just can’t do it, it’s not a problem take your dog down to any Vets or a Groomer and its a two minute job which doesn’t cost too much, if you
simply want to do it yourself here are a few pointers and some reassurance. Some dogs can be nervous it is best to start from an early age so they are familiar with it, give them plenty of reassurance and perhaps get a second person to hold them gently, then using correct dog clippers seen below just take the tips off, if your dog has light coloured nails you can generally see through them and you can see the blood vessel running up from the paw and coming to a stop, you MUST NOT cut through it, be sure to cut above it. Although we try to avoid and can upset us if we hurt our pets but sometimes accidents do happen try not to panic the bleeding should stop between 5 – 7 minutes, if bleeding does continue contact your local vet. Also your vet can show you how to cut your dogs nails for the future. In addition when you are cutting your dogs nails you can also complete a general check up on their paws check for broken glass or thorns, if you let your dog go swimming in the sea be sure to rinse their paws when you get home they are very sensitive to salt water and could make their paws feel uncomfortable and sore, and last of all when you have finished reward your dog with a treat and tell good boy or good girl! If you don’t have the proper tools it will not work and you will damage your dog’s nails you can buy these
clippers below that are recommended by us.
